Students visit the Cheltenham Badlands

June 2011: The Credit Stone Side Trail on the west side of Olde Baseline Rd which took you to an old quarry was closed in 2011 and remains closed for regeneration.

001 - 003 |1.2 kmThe new parking lot on Old Baseline Road, administered by Credit Valley Conservation, charges a flat $10 parking fee. A new 230 m roadside walkway leads from the the parking area to a wheelchair accessible viewing platform which offers views of this significant landmark. Roadside parking is also available on the east side of Creditview Rd, near the access trail into the Badlands (003.) However the free parking here can only accommodate three cars.
For hikers, exit the parking lot and follow the trail to view the Badlands. The trail crosses seasonal watercourses on four boardwalks as it descends southwesterly. The trailcrosses a tributary of the Credit River on two bridges and then climbs out of the valley. The trail now heads West through a regenerating forest of ash, apple and hawthorn before meeting the Old Baseline ST which heads right to Old Baseline Road. (002.) Stay left on the main trail which soon exits the Badlands at Creditview Rd by the small parking lot (003.)

003 - 004 | 1.8kmTurn left onto Creditview Rd and follow the Bruce Trail to Boston Mills Rd (004) where the main trail turns right and heads south.

004 - 005 | 2.6kmLeaving the main trail, continue straight ahead on this paved low traffic Creditview Rd. The sound of loud barking dogs breaks the country silence as they always seem to resent your presence in the area. Eventually the barking fades with the road descending and then climbing gradually to Kennedy Road (005.)

005 - 006 | 2.9kmTurn left on Kennedy Rd and head north to meet the Caledon Trailway (006.)

006 - 007 | 4.0kmTurn left on to the Caledon Trailway and continue ahead crossing three creeks flowing under the Trailway that are barely visible (see Trail Map). The Trailway now reaches Boston Mills Road (007.)

007 - 008 | 4.5kmContinuing straight ahead along the Caledon Trailway you will soon arrive at Chinguacousy Road (008.)

008 - 009 | 5.6kmFollow the Caledon Trailway across a wooden bridge over a road to the golf course below. The golf course can be seen to the right as you walk along the Trailway. The trail crosses a few creeks in the area before reaching Olde Baseline Rd (009.)

009 - 010 | 6.1kmTurn left onto Old Baseline Rd and follow the walkway on the left side of the road to Chinquacousy Road (010.)

010 - 001 | 7.0kmCross Chinquacousy Road and continue on the path southwest to (001) and the parking lot and perhaps another look at the Badlands by walking along the roadside walkway.
Enjoy the hike and the day!
